Kids On Stage “Disney’s Winnie the Pooh, Kids”
Campers will be introduced to many aspects of musical theatre with a variety of fun classes. They learn theatre games, improvisation, warm-ups, dance, vocal exercises, voice & diction, terminology, acting and stage production, all the while developing a character and rehearsing for a full staged musical production at the end of camp.

Kids On Stage “Fame, Jr.”
The third session of camp is going to be an exciting addition to our already successful summer camp program. This year we will offer a three week MasterCamp. We wanted to offer our older campers an extra week for master classes leading up to the two weeks following when we will mount the show. So at this camp, the kids will have a week of intensive classes in improv, musical theatre dance, voice, character development, acting, and auditioning. This week prepares them for the second week when they will audition for the show. There will be more than one performance that you and your family will be able to attend. We know this is going to be a great opportunity for young actors.
Acting Out Theatre Workshop
Actor and Educator Darrell Revel will guide participants through the basics of theatre. Students will learn theatre games, improvisation, monologues, scene work, stage make-up application and voice & diction. Best of all, the children will get a chance to showcase their newly developed skills when the workshop culminates with a Showcase Production open to all parents and friends.
Adventures in Visual Art
Students will experiment in a variety of visual arts genres, from drawing and painting to mixed media and mosaics. The class is for all skill levels and is appropriate for former “Drawing and Painting” students. Price includes supplies
Ballet
Students will continue to study classic ballet technique derived from the Vaganova Method (Russian technique). New ArtPlay students must attend a placement session on January 15 or 17 at 5pm to determine placement.
Students will continue to focus on the fundamentals of ballet technique while they train for both flexibility, strength, and artistry. Students will continue their training in the Vaganova method. This class will serve as an introduction to pointe for young ladies, and the proper development in technique for young male dancers. New ArtPlay students must attend a placement session on January 15 or 17 at 5pm to determine section.
Brushless
Experience the freedom of process art painting with everything except a brush! This class inspires creative thinking while discovering alternative ways to recycle and view common/random every day objects. Masterpieces emerge in motion painting with spinning toy tops, rolling toy cars, blowing water-color bubbles, printing with kitchen gadgets, pixeling with cotton swabs and more!
Hip Hop Dance
Cost: $150
Feel the rhythm. Move to the beat. Have a blast! Students will love getting physically fit while learning the latest dance moves in this fun and age-appropriate hip hop dance class. Class will culminate in a showcase demonstrating all techniques learned and is open to all parents and friends.
Improvise Life
This class explores how improvisation with sound is a direct tool for self-discovery and personal awareness. No music experience required.
Intro to Musical Theatre
Students will learn the basics of musical theatre including basic acting technique, song interpretation, learning music, rhythms, basic dance steps and staging directions. Monologues, scene work, music from the musical theatre repertoire, theatre games, and exercises will be utilized as well. As students learn about various elements and experiment with different musical theatre genres, they will be able to use their newfound techniques to further their love for theatre and the music that surrounds them on stage. Class will culminate in a showcase demonstrating all techniques learned and is open to all parents and friends.
Musical Theatre and Jazz Dance
Students will explore basic musical theatre and classic jazz dance. This is a great follow-up class to Intro to Musical Theatre!
Sew Much Fun
Clothing and textile designer Lillis Taylor will teach the basics of machine sewing in a kid-friendly way that keeps the process fun. Make easy accessories such as a throw-pillow, shoulder bag, lap quilt and scarf.
Private Instruction
ArtPlay is pleased to offer private instruction in a variety of instruments and artistic disciplines through partnerships with local instructors and music organizations. Lessons range from 30 – 60 minute increments depending on the age and preference of the student. Each instructor is available at varying times throughout the week. Current Teacher Roster: Carlos Pino, guitar Karen Krekelberg and Patricia Billups, piano Diane McNaron, voice Ray Robinson, percussionAlicia Johnson, acting Partnership with the UAB Department of Music Through a partnership with the UAB Department of Music, ArtPlay is able to offer additional private instruction in trumpet, trombone, clarinet, flute, saxophone, euphonium, French horn, piano, guitar, and voice. Instructors in this program are UAB students extensively trained in music education and performance in the instrument they will teach.
